Some thoughts while the sprite is rendering

As a spare time game dev like me, life gets in the way quite often. I haven’t had time to look at my game in February. But that’s no reason to worry, i’m making the best of it.

I believe that creative breaks are super important to stay fresh, motivated and to refill the batteries. Especially when you’re working alone.

Venus Guild is a free time project after all, so why should i stress myself? That sounds a little bit arrogant, because, when i can believe the stats, there are plenty of people visiting this blog to learn more about VG, and i feel kind of responsible for them. I don’t want to disappoint people.

But i also don’t want to burnout and get into frustration. So i take things easy and look forward to the next programming afternoon.

One thing i can tell you. So far, everytime i look at the game after having a long break, i’m getting very excited and confident that Venus Guild will become a really cool Point & Click Adventure.

I don’t think “omg, what have i done” or “no, i never will be able to finish this”. It’s still a shitload of work until the Venus Guild Demo is done (it really takes much longer than i’ve expected, to be honest), but i really like the way the game is coming along.

Well, i think the render is done. See you soon!

2020: The Year of the Venus

Happy new year! I hope you’re doing well and looking forward to the first playable versions of the Venus Guild Game that will be released this year.

Talking about the Pre-Alpha, i’m still working hard on the development, rendering sprites like crazy, fix bugs, add features. VG is coming nicely together, but i won’t make the mistake to release it too early, even when the first version is “only” meant to be a demo.

Luisa in Venus Guild

What happened to Luisa3D.com?

After 5 years, the Luisa B. online comic is no longer under development. I have no ressources left over to continue that project. The domain redirects to venusguild.com as i want to make sure that Luisa’s fans learn everything about the new project.

The comics may come back at one day in the future, but for now VG is all i can think of. And don’t worry, because after all, Luisa is the star in Venus Guild as well!

A new story

I also want to tell a new story in Venus Guild. The game is not a new episode in the Dreams of Luisa/Luisa B. saga. It’s the same universe, yes, but the game should pretty much work as a stand-alone. By saying that, it makes no sense to have the comics still online…

Maybe i’m overthinking this point, but i also must say that the click rates really were on an all-time-low. That’s another reason to start something really new, something really cool 🙂

Thanks for your understanding and support! Make sure to check back soon, follow me on twitter (@VenusGuild) and have a great time.

come whatever may

What a month! Only Luisa looks kind of relaxed…

Luisa in Venus Guild

This picture shows pose 3 on position 2 in scene 1 of the Venus Guild game. I bet you’re already wishing that she would open her kimono a bit more.

But unfortunately this is all i can show you for now. I’m still working on the heavy 0.0.8 version. I had some technical difficulties this month, also a busier-than-normal “real life”, so my progress is kind of unsatisfying.

I’ve also made some artistic decisions that will change a few things. This takes extra production time, but it’s worth it. I won’t release anything i’m not 100% happy with. Okay, the first release is a Pre-Alpha Demo, i promise to keep it real 😉

The driving force is my passion for the project, not a deadline.

So don’t expect any big news this year. Personally i was hoping to have a playable version together by the end of November, but hey, it’s what it is and Venus Guild is slowly coming together, come whatever may. Thanks so much for your patience.

Have a nice time and check back soon!

Venus Guild v0.0.7 is done.

Tonight i’ve reached another milestone by finishing 0.0.7, the feature update. It was the heaviest update so far. Some of the game features of this version, like the wardrobe or the world map, i already mentioned in recent posts. But there’s even more! Will talk about all that soon enough 😉

Anyways, for the graphical update, which is v0.0.8, i will need to invest countless sleepless nights again. I need to create and render all the character sprites and bonus materials. That also requires 3D-modeling of clothes and other stuff. And i’m thinking of adding some fancy animations to the gui, to make the game really look cool.

Oh, did i mention that i’m also working on an original soundtrack for Venus Guild? No? Yes, i do! I’m thinking of some sweet piano melodies, combined with tasty electro beats, very classy 🙂

But don’t let us go too much into detail for now. I still have enough time to fill this blog with info and stuff. I’m hoping to have 0.0.8 ready in December, but that’s quite optimistic…

Thanks for reading! I’m looking forward to your reply 😉

In-Game Features, Part 2: The Wardrobe

When i was building the main character’s bedroom, which is Level 2 in the game (oops, spoiler), i thought it would be nice to make it a clickable object. With a click on it, the avatar would change her outfit, depending on what is needed at that particular point in the story.

But quickly i felt that this simple one-click interaction wasn’t enough. VG is a Point&Clicker game after all, so give the people more stuff to interact with! I couldn’t get this thought out of my head…

On the other hand, a full wardrobe feature would be really terrifying to develop:

To give the player a way to choose between a number of outfits and change it permanently, well, that is simply impossible (with this game). I would need to create thousands of extra sprites and program all the optional outfits somehow… no way!

In the meantime i found a better way, one that adds some more gameplay without making it too complicated to realise…

How does the wardrobe feature work?

First of all, the player must finish some tasks in order to enable the wardrobe feature. Once it is enabled, a click on the wardrobe opens a nice menu that shows the stylized inside of the wardrobe.

In the top area there are 3 buttons with small preview pics of available outfits and the player must choose the right one. A click will open a bigger preview pic and another button confirms the choice and exits the menu.

In the demo and early game there will be only 2 options, to keep it simple. Later in game more variations and even a kind of mini game is possible.

So what about the third button?

Remember Venus Guild is an erotic game? So the third option will undress the character! Of course, the player needs to make some progress to receive this sexy option. And the character will only stay naked in the particular room.

But the exact functionality isn’t carved in stone yet. I just wanted to talk about it 🙂
